Descrizione

È di colore grigio scuro, con una lunghezza massima di 30,5 cm. Ha 6-7 spine dorsali, 34-35 raggi molli dorsali, 3-4 spine anali e 31-32 raggi molli anali. È a forma di diamante, con una piccola bocca sporgente e grandi raggi spinosi presenti ai bordi anteriori delle pinne. Si nutre di zooplancton e solleva la spina dorsale come dimostrazione territoriale. Si nutre vicino al corallo Paragorgia.

Diffusione

Vive a profondità di 915-1.829 m nell'Oceano Atlantico settentrionale, trovandosi al largo di Madeira e dell'Irlanda e nel Mar Cantabrico.
